On Sept 15, a 300-kilogram gold shipment from Singapore arrived at Sanya Phoenix International Airport via Guangzhou city in Guangdong province and cleared customs smoothly. This marks the first time Sanya has handled a direct large-scale gold import since the Shanghai Gold Exchange designated warehouse in Sanya became operational.
Handling gold, a high-value item, involves strict requirements for customs efficiency, storage security, and transport management. Sanya Airport Customs, under Haikou Customs, took proactive steps to facilitate the process.
Upon receiving the importing company's customs clearance request, it quickly gathered details on the import plan and transportation method. It completed necessary document reviews ahead of time, strictly following the "non-one-batch-one-license" rule for gold and gold products, thereby boosting clearance efficiency for the valuable items.
Sanya is one of the 15 customs offices implementing the "non-one-batch-one-license" management system. According to the latest regulations, the permit is valid for nine months from the date of issue.
Within this period, companies can make multiple customs declarations for goods up to a specified quantity, effectively reducing transaction costs and promoting efficient gold trade.
To enhance convenience, Sanya Airport Customs employed a new strategy for this shipment: "advance declaration + air-to-air transit + direct apron pickup." This allowed the goods to be unloaded, verified on-site, and picked up immediately upon arrival, significantly cutting down on-port stay time and ensuring secure storage and transit for valuable goods.
A representative from the Sanya branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China noted that the successful import will boost the local gold and jewelry industry.
Looking ahead, an official from the Sanya Airport Customs stated that they will guide businesses to fully leverage the Hainan Free Trade Port policies, supporting the growth of more gold and jewelry processing companies in Sanya, and contributing to the high-quality development of Hainan's unique bulk commodity trade.
