Sanya Phoenix International Airport successfully wrapped up its 62-day summer travel operations between July 1 and Aug 31.

Facing high passenger volumes, the airport focused on strategic coordination and precise measures — steadily boosting its capacity.

Over the period, it managed 24,264 flight takeoffs and landings and served 3.895 million passenger trips — increasing 4.1 percent and 5.4 percent respectively compared with the same period in 2025.

During this peak season, Sanya Phoenix International Airport worked closely with both domestic and international airlines to meet market demands. By increasing flights on popular routes and using larger aircraft, they optimized their flight schedules and network.

More flights were added to destinations such as Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Urumqi, Fuzhou, Tianjin, Nanning, Zhuhai, Jieyang and Almaty. This initiative included deploying more wide-body planes to key areas, ensuring robust travel options for passengers.

With summer bringing high temperatures, typhoons and frequent thunderstorms, the airport took a proactive approach.

Staff members monitored weather and airspace restrictions, issued timely weather alerts, and refined the thunderstorm season flight rerouting plans.

To handle the surge numbers of returning students and tourists, and the peak summer travel period, the aerodrome added staff in crucial areas like check-in, special passenger services and security lines. This provided seamless support for inquiries and check-ins, reducing waiting times for travelers.
