Duty-free shopping booms during National Day holiday in Sanya

Sanya saw a big increase in duty-free shopping during the National Day holiday. Data from Sanya Customs shows that in the first three days of the holiday, duty-free sales under customs supervision in Sanya reached nearly 240 million yuan ($35.8 million), with more than 30,000 passenger trips, reflecting year-on-year growth of 13.6 percent and 11.2 percent, respectively.

"The overlap of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day has brought a peak season for tourism and consumption in Sanya. The duty-free market is heating up steadily, with a continuous rise in store traffic. Beauty products, digital gadgets and sports and outdoor gear are particularly popular," said a representative from the sales department of Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex.

Throughout the National Day holiday, Sanya's major duty-free shops, shopping districts and restaurants rolled out a range of offerings and promotions. These included the debut of flagship stores, new product launches and a series of special performances, combined with various consumer-friendly promotions, creating a holiday shopping extravaganza that drew visitors from all around.

Customs officials were well-prepared too. An official from the duty-free goods supervision section of Sanya Customs said that during the National Day period, several measures were introduced to facilitate businesses and consumers.

The customs enhanced the appointment clearance system, supported by smart systems like intelligent document review and remote video inspections, with key staff members on standby 24/7 to address business needs and ensure the smooth flow of duty-free goods.

Additionally, a 24-hour customs consultation hotline remained open during the holiday period to provide immediate answers to simple queries and same-day responses to more complex issues, ensuring that no problem goes unresolved overnight.
