Numerous travelers were seen leaving the terminal with their luggage at Sanya Phoenix International Airport on Oct 11. As the National Day holiday wrapped up, visitor numbers at Sanya's major attractions decreased, hotel availability increased and travel costs dropped significantly, offering a rare window for off-peak travel.
Travel platform data shows that after the National Day holiday, airfares to Sanya from various locations have plunged. For example, on Oct 10, flights from Beijing to Sanya were as low as 370 yuan ($55.28), with one-way fares from Shanghai averaging around 300 yuan. Tickets from cities like Chongqing, Chengdu and Shenzhen to Sanya were all under 500 yuan, making spontaneous island getaways more affordable.
Accommodation prices have also followed a similar trend. After the holiday, hotels across the city now have plenty of rooms available, with cheaper prices, offering travelers more choices and a better stay experience.
The coming weeks are the prime time for off-peak travel to Sanya. With mild and sunny weather in October, visitors can enjoy water activities in the clear sea, explore the rainforest or take a leisurely walk along the Coconut Dream Corridor at sunset, all at a lower cost while enjoying a relaxed, immersive island vacation.
As many primary and secondary school students across the country will have an autumn break in November, family travel is picking up. Many parents have already booked low-cost flights to Sanya after the holiday.
Data from travel platforms indicates that from Oct 15 to Nov 15, flight bookings to Sanya from cities like Chengdu, Nanjing, Beijing and Shanghai have increased by 40 percent compared to the same period last year. The appeal of off-peak island travel continues to grow.
Sanya will continue to offer unique travel experiences like coastal leisure, rainforest exploration and cultural activities to welcome visitors during this time, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the coastal city's charm.
