Under the warm autumn sun, the barriers around the square in front of Yazhou Railway Station are coming down. A spacious plaza and new covered walkways are now visible.
The revamped station area was officially opened to locals and tourists on Oct 10. The upgraded roads, drop-off zones, and parking and transfer facilities have greatly enhanced the travel experience for passengers.

The project spans 51,724.24 square meters, with a total building area of 27,605.30 square meters. It's a key initiative to optimize Sanya's railway transport hub, promote the Cool City project, and improve public travel quality.
The layout includes a pedestrian plaza, municipal roads, and parking for buses, tourist coaches and nonmotor vehicles. The underground area features drop-off points for taxis and ride-sharing services, as well as a distribution center.
The covered walkways, with stairs and elevators around the station, connect the above-ground and underground spaces, making transfers easier.
"There used to be no shade when passengers left the station, and carrying luggage in the heat was tough. Now, with the covered walkways, there's no worry about sun or rain," said a traveler surnamed Chen, who just arrived at Yazhou Railway Station. He said that the upgraded station area has made travel much more convenient.
