On Nov 2, the Sanya Bay Mangrove Tree Convention Center was buzzing with activity. The 8th Global Forum of Leaders for Agricultural Science and Technology (GLAST) side event and exhibition on international agricultural science and technology achievements and trade drew significant interest.

Around 400 delegates from 37 countries and 11 international organizations toured the various booths, getting a close look at China's new agricultural varieties and equipment and engaging in direct discussions for collaboration.

With the permanent establishment of GLAST in Sanya, and leveraging the advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port, this tropical city is becoming a crucial hub for China's agricultural tech exchange with the world.

"We've already hosted several groups of international visitors. African traders have shown interest in exporting apple cider vinegar and we've reached an initial agreement," said Zhang Peiji, representative of the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

With GLAST permanently based in Sanya and using the Hainan FTP platform, the goal is to introduce domestic cutting-edge varieties and technologies to the world while learning from advanced international experiences.

Nearby, the Institute of Farmland Irrigation of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences also drew considerable attention. Representatives from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the Solomon Islands and Egypt were eager to learn more about the institution.

Feedback from international guests highlights the event's collaborative success. A representative from the Agricultural Research Center, Egypt, showed keen interest in irrigation and plant protection technologies. He expressed a strong desire to collaborate in this regard, aiming to advance research in rice and corn, and said he hopes to finalize agreements soon.

Amid the booths, researchers from different countries exchanged contact details and technical information. New varieties, smart equipment and comprehensive solutions are sparking collaborative opportunities here.

As the permanent host of GLAST, combined with the unique openness of the Hainan FTP, Sanya is steadily establishing a channel for agricultural technology exchange. It showcases China's strong agricultural research capabilities while meeting global needs, making practical contributions to global food security and the transformation of agri-food systems.
