Sanya duty-free shopping sees rise over Spring Festival

The cumulative sales of four off-island duty-free shops in Sanya reached 2.1 billion yuan ($292.19 million) from Feb 10 to 17, with both the number of visitors and shoppers hitting a historic high, demonstrating the vigorous vitality of Hainan's off-island duty-free policy.


Of note, the cumulative sales increased by 4.6 percent compared to the same period last year, with a daily average sales of 263 million yuan. The total number of visitors received reached 1.124 million, a year-on-year increase of 41.4 percent, with a daily average of 140,500 visitors. The actual number of shoppers surged 27.3 percent to 190,000, with a daily average of 23,800 shoppers.


Sanya launched the 2024 Sanya Government Consumption Voucher distribution activity to boost duty-free consumption during the Spring Festival holiday.


A total of 10 million yuan worth of off-island duty-free government consumption vouchers were issued to stimulate tourists' enthusiasm for duty-free shopping. As of Feb 17, 8.82 million yuan had been redeemed, driving consumption of 162 million yuan.
