Sanya duty-free complex becomes China's 1st AAAA shopping-themed attraction

On April 29, Sanya achieved a milestone in integrated tourism and commerce as the Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex was designated a national AAAA-level tourist attraction - the first in China with duty-free retail as its core.

This development signifies an advancement in the integration of commerce and tourism, which not only reinforces Hainan's ambitions to establish itself as a global consumption hub but also sets a pioneering standard for the convergence of the retail and leisure sectors nationwide.

Located in Haitang Bay, the complex features three architectural clusters and the landmark "Cloud Ring Bridge", blending high-end shopping with cultural aesthetics. Since relocating here in 2014, it has welcomed 92 million visitors with revenues exceeding 100 billion yuan ($13.7 billion).

The complex launched themed events combining tourism and shopping for the May Day holiday. Until May 5, visitors can enjoy 5x loyalty points, discounts on cosmetics, and government-issued duty-free vouchers. Evening activities include the Estée Lauder-sponsored "Star Night" with laser shows and performances, while an outdoor "Sports Season" offers tennis, brand pop-ups, and parties.
