In the first quarter of 2023, the number of flights landing and taking off from Sanya Phoenix International Airport, as well as its passenger throughput, reached a historical high.

During this period, the airport oversaw 36,000 flights, reached a passenger throughput of 6.2 million, and a monthly passenger throughput of over 2 million.

The airport has added four new navigable cities for its 2023 summer and autumn aviation seasons, which are Yichang, Weifang, Handan, and Yueyang. These additions will strengthen the airport's radiation to domestic second and third-tier cities. The airport also resumed its Sanya-Hong Kong flight route on Feb 28, marking the resumption of Sanya's international passenger routes.

At present, the renovation and expansion project of the airport's international terminal is in full swing, with construction progress exceeding 70 percent. After the completion of the international terminal, the airport's operational efficiency will be effectively improved, and its port functions and service capabilities will also be further improved. The airport will lay a solid foundation for the restoration and addition of more international routes to and from Sanya.
