The 5th Hainan Island International Film Festival's "Bright Cinema" charity screening event was held in Sanya on Dec 20, gathering over 50 visually impaired to enjoy the film "Lighting up the Stars."

"Bright Cinema" is a charitable project initiated by the Communication University of China, Beijing Gehua CATV Network and Dongfang Jiaying Television Cinema Media. It is the first accessible film project in China that actively involves university students and faculty as volunteers. Since becoming a regular screening activity of the HIIFF, the "Bright Cinema" project has been organizing charity screenings for five consecutive years.

The screenings aim to raise awareness and influence for the project while calling for more compassionate individuals to pay attention to the cultural needs of the visually impaired community.

For this screening, the film was specially selected and made into an accessible version by the project team. The film includes descriptions of visual elements during dialogue and sound gaps, helping visually impaired individuals understand and appreciate the movie.

A Sanya official said that the project has allowed visually impaired individuals to enter movie theaters and enjoy films, providing them with more convenient public cultural services and fostering a positive social atmosphere. The achievements of this project benefit the citizens and tourists of Sanya extensively and effectively.

In addition, the official expressed the hope that Sanya and the Communication University of China would continue to expand cooperation in various fields, resulting in more collaborative platforms, brands and projects.
