The 5th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) has launched a virtual reality (VR) film experience zone that will run from Dec 17 to 21 between 9 am and 6 pm.

This is the festival's first foray into VR, as it is committed to exploring new paths, researching new directions, and seeking new momentum for the development of talent in the film industry.

The event offers two 3DoF VR films and two 6DoF VR films. So far, these films have captivated the audience with their grandiose scene designs and high-quality visuals, providing an unprecedented visual feast.

The DoF stands for degree of freedom, which is a part of the VR positioning system and represents the object's movement in three-dimensional space. The 3DoF (three degrees of freedom) allows the player's head to rotate up and down, left and right, and back and forth while the 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) adds the body's movement in these directions.

"This is my first time experiencing a VR film. Following the storyline of the protagonist, I immersed myself in the campus scenes and also enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Gulangyu Island in Xiamen," said Wang Wenxuan, who experienced the VR film.

"The characters displayed on the screen are vivid and lively, making me feel like I'm the protagonist myself," added Wang.
