YALONG BAY NAVAL BASE, Hainan: A Chinese naval fleet - armed with special forces, guided missiles and helicopters - set sail on Friday for anti-piracy duty off Somalia, the first time the country has sent ships on a mission that could involve fighting beyond its territorial waters.

On August 6, 2008, some brides and bridegrooms enjoyed a free service to dive into the sea and say “I do” gleefully in Sanya.This activity is organized by the Sanya Tourism Bureau and all the overseas couples can enjoy the whole service for free as an international tourism promotion.

The Beijing Olympic torch relay in Sanya has successfully concluded on May 3, 2008. Sanya is the city hosting the first leg of the torch relay on its return journey to the mainland China.
